Barge Terminal Born the largest

On 10 September the Barge Terminal Born (BTB) gained a new 150-metre long quay and a site of four hectares for container storage. The port of Holtum-Noord, where the terminal is located, was also deepened to 3.95 metres. The terminal capacity has doubled from 150,000 TEU to 300,000 TEU.

This makes BTB the largest inland terminal in the Netherlands. The port expansion cost 10 million Euros. The government paid 4.7 million, the province of Limburg 2.1 million, and the municipality of Sittard-Geleen contributed 3.2 million Euros.

With the commissioning of Maasvlakte 2, it is expected that the share of inland shipping in hinterland transport will grow significantly the next few years. BTB offers six permanent departures per week with inland vessels up to 300 TEU.
