Ten million for inland ports
The municipalities of Venray, Oss, Bergen op Zoom and Tiel will together receive ten million euros from the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment to tackle their inland ports.
Most of the money, 4 million euros, is intended for the expansion of the port of Wanssum (municipality of Venray), enabling container and bulk throughput to increase. In Oss, 3.8 million euros will go towards extending the container terminal. Bergen op Zoom wants to receive the largest class of container ships in its port. This requires modification of the lock of the Theodorushaven. The ministry contributes 1.3 million euros to that end. The municipality of Tiel is constructing an access road for a new container terminal and receives 900,000 euros for this purpose.
Minister Schultz van Haegen announced the contributions to the municipalities in Holtum Noord. She opened the renovated inland shipping terminal there. This enlarged inland shipping terminal can now handle 80,000 extra containers per year.
