US Residual Bunker Sales Fall 12.7% in 2015, Distillate Sales Jump 51%

The latest data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) shows that U.S. residual marine bunker sales in 2015 decreased by 12.7 percent year on year, declining by 489 million gallons to total 3,358 million gallons - or about 12.7 million metric tonnes.

January 1, 2015 was when the 0.10 percent sulfur cap for marine fuel came into force within the North American Emissions Control Area (ECA), a change that mean most vessels switched away from the previously used low sulfur residual blends to using distillate fuel for compliance.

    2015年1月1日，海运燃料的0.10％硫含量的标准在北美排放控制区（ECA）中生效，这意味着大多数船舶已经从使用低硫油转向使用馏分油。
